To prepare or position so as to be ready for impact or danger or to prepare (oneself) for something unpleasant or difficult. Frequently used on channel when channel members are likely to imminently suffer the wrath and rage of an aggrieved SCM or when a channel member is about to join the channel, as part of a general channel entry paranoia excercise. As part of the bracing procedure, channel members may opt to head for the Irish bunker, which may offter some protection against the imminent storm of verbal abuse and hammering of fists.
